Disney Channel buys pitch, renews 'Vampire'

Disney Channel has bought a pitch from a graduate of the Disney/ABC writing fellowship program to develop into an original movie with Ashley Tisdale and Jessica Rhoades exec producing.The cabler also said it has picked up horror-comedy series "My Babysitter's a Vampire" for a second season."Adventure Quest" comes from writer Jennifer Derwingson, who has also co-scripted "And Soon the Darkness," a film starring Amber Heard, Odette Yustman and Karl Urban.Tisdale starred in the "High School Musical" movies for Disney Channel and also is part of the voice cast for hit animated series "Phineas and Ferb." Her Blonde Girl Prods. colleague Rhoades has exec produced "The Suite Life Movie" and "Den Brother" for Disney. Matt Horwitz of Artist International packaged the deal."My Babysitter's a Vampire," which premiered in June, has averaged 3.7 million viewers and was the No. 1 cable show among kids 2-11 in its time period.FremantleMedia Enterprises handles global distribution (exclusive of country-of-origin Canada) for the series, which is exec produced by Tom McGillis, Brian Irving, George Elliott, Sander Schwartz, Bob Higgins and Jennifer Pertsch for Fresh TV.
